INFORMATION SHEET -  GUIDED EXCURSIONS in the REGION of PIEMONT

EXPLORING THE NEW WILDERNESS OF VAL GRANDE

The rough-looking Val Grande has been declared the biggest and wildest national park of Italy and the Alps. For centuries it provided food for the cattle and wood for the mining industries of the Ossolan valleys, and in World War II it was devastated on the search of partisans. Today Val Grande is only visited by  friends of untouched nature. Hiking on the round track of uomo albero we`ll be experiencing marvellous views on its inner parts and get some insights into the character of this unique region.

departure and meeting point:

SUNDAY, JUNE 12 + 26 8:30 a.m.
Casa della Resistenza, Verbania-Fondotoce

arrival: From Verbania follow green signs to motorway Milano/Torino, in Fondotoce turn right indicating Mergozzo, soon after turn left, again for Mergozzo. After 200 metres you see a war memorial with a big cross and next to it the Casa della Resistenza with a car parking.

difficulty: E – for hikers with basic experience and normal physical condition, children from 6-7 years on.

level difference: ca. 350m in ascending and descending

walking time: about 3 hours ( 5 - 6 hours with breaks )

clothing and equipment: backpack, water-resistant coat, hiking shoes, walking sticks recommended, water bottle, binoculars, sun and mosquito protection.

lunch: pranzo al sacco = out of the backpack, possibly at the end of the tour we`ll have a merenda (drink) in the Rifugio Ompio.

security note: In case of bad conditions the itinerary can be shortened or changed. In order to protect all participants the orders of the responsible guide have to be obeyed, otherwise the person can be excluded from the tour.

responsible guide: Thomas Richter, nature guide of the Region of Piemont, speaks English, Italian and German.

contribution: € 15 for adults, € 10 for children under 15.
